It turns out that “mastery” of governance is a mysterious topic. What is mastery, or excellence even, in governance? How does one assess or pursue or define such a thing?
A lot of this Trustee Journey has been written with the help and guidance of high-level Trustees from across the sector, drawing on their direct experience, but there seems to be little formalised research or evidence on the topic in the cultural sector.
We didn’t want to write about mastery of governance according to anecdote. It’s a serious subject that should have serious thought behind it.
Adapt for Arts are working in partnership with the Cultural Governance Alliance and Newcastle University Business School to research mastery of governance in the arts. Our aim is to publish thinking on tools, frameworks, and approaches to help experienced Trustees and boards elevate their practice.
If you would like to contribute to this process in any way, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch here.
And now that you’re here, how about another video, this time about the journey?
