A new cultural scene: Wigan

A new cultural scene: Wigan

Wigan - an English town famous for its Northern Soul roots, has had a tough time when it comes to culture over the last 20 years. But over the last five years, an amazing trio of Wiganers have been busy bringing art, music, theatre and festivals to this amazing town.

The Old Courts - a future icon - hosts over 40 artist studios, two live music venues, two theatre spaces, a gallery, a cafe & a whole lot of talent.

The amazing Old Courts, in Wigan.

And they’ve done this without any charitable status or funding to date. It’s pretty impressive.

Due to their success, demand started to grow, and the team are now looking at running not just one, but four cultural sites across Wigan. The Old Courts approached us to support them to set up a charitable Trust - finding and training Trustees who can support them to make sure arts and culture thrives in Wigan.

Using our onboard project resources, we designed and delivered a bespoke experiential training session in collaboration with theatre makers Coney.

“The facilitated session broke down barriers between the trustees immediately after being introduced for the first time - we felt that we had known each other for a long time after the session, and like our own team. Constructive, innovative & enjoyable.”

We can’t wait to see what Wigan looks like in a few years time, after an incredible investment of time, support and knowledge for their new Trustees.
